Quilt Recipients

If you are like me, you have thoroughly enjoyed reading Murfster35’s diaries about politics.  The man is funny and very, very sharp!  But what you may not know is that Murfster35 is medically retired.  There is something wrong that has curbed what he can do — and the doctors don’t know for sure what it is.

Community Quilt For Murfster35Personally, I think sometimes a mystery about an illness is as painful as any symptom.  It sucks.

The upshot is that Murfster has to be very careful of changing the position of his body, particularly of his head, or he will lose his balance.  He’s taken falls, had the world go spinning, even blacked out for a few seconds.  Stairs have become dangerous for him.  He always needs a hand free to steady himself no matter what he is doing so even something as mundane as carrying the groceries in presents its own problems.  No, this isn’t like cancer or some other mortal illness.  It’s not a threat to his life that is the reason for this quilt… What Murfster is suffering from is another sort of blow to his very self.  He is, by nature, a very spirited man, one who has been very athletic and active all his life.  It is not an easy thing to have such physical limitations — and not even definitively know the reason why.

Let’s raise his spirits by giving Murfster35 something tangible to show in what high regard he is held by this community and to let him know, in no uncertain terms, that we all care about him and appreciate his quick wit.  We’ll make a community quilt full of loving and supportive words from you that he can read over and over and which will be a continual comfort to him.  Leave a message for Murfster35 in the comments below — I will pick up your message with a {{{{hug}}}} for you and transcribe it in archival ink onto muslin.  My sister and I will sew it into a colorful quilt for Murfster35, something he will treasure forever.
