We started a social document in Providence -- many, many people signed the quilt blocks, not just with their names but with a message. It is with great pleasure that I announce a drawing for a quilt. The above pictured star quilt, "All My Relations", was made from 200 diamond shaped patches signed at the 2008 Netroots Nation in Austin, TX. An additional four signatures of prominent Native American bloggers were appliqued in the four corners: Meteor Blades, Speaks Lightning (known as Ojibwa on Daily Kos), Winter Rabbit, and Dengre. A full list of signatories may be found here. My own design, I machined pieced and hand quilted this piece.

From 8/16 to 9/15, donations of $10 or more to Jack Conway's campaign through an Act Blue page or short essays on "What Jack Conway’s Run For the U.S. Senate Means to Me" were counted as chances in a drawing for "From Red to Blue", the quilt signed in 2006 at our first progressive blogging conference.

The quilt has a new owner. A young neighbor did us the honor of drawing the ticket. There were 219 tickets, corresponding to 214 donations and five essays. The quilt raised $5086 for Jerry Brown’s campaign for Governor of California.

The Community Quilt Project had its origin in friendship quilts -- quilts bearing messages or signatures of people. And since the very first Yearly Kos, signature quilts have been a feature of our blogging conferences.
